Bill tabled in AB that will allow dr dual practice. This is different than the status quo here and elsewhere in Canada that allows opting out out of the public system entirely. Instead, drs will be able to have both public and private pay patients. /1

ICYMI: Alberta will always protect the right to free expression, open dialogue, and the ability to think critically for yourself. Professional regulatory bodies and colleges will no longer be permitted to police the off-duty speech of their members and censor them.

I’m well paid in the public system. I’m swamped. I need time not money. If a physician can charge 2 to 3x’s as much in a parallel private system they can earn more AND get time. They need to see fewer patients or less units of patient care for more money. Basically your hourly

Authoritarianism is a slippery slope. It seems the UCP will keep the notwithstanding clause at the ready as a regular kitchen implement. A threat to all Canadians, cuz it normalises violating Charter rights for any other wannabe despot premiers.

The UCP has invoked the Notwithstanding Clause again — this time to attack vulnerable trans kids. This is why unions stood in Solidarity with the 2SlGBTQ+ community yesterday. “If they can use it to strip rights from workers and now vulnerable trans kids, who’s next?”
