I love exploring the origins of pronouns like ze/hir. these were actually one of the first pronouns that came out by queer and trans scholars in the 90s to refer to people outside of the gender binary even before the more common they/them. neopronouns came about in the 2000s

more recent neoprouns (new pronouns) have context within online subgroups created by trans/queer youth, creating shifts in ways ppl subvert western heteropatriarchy and binaries. it’s also really affirming to find the pronouns that are right for you even if they’re private to you

this is a privilege for me bc often universally used languages are rooted in the binary. many people still use binary pronouns in their home language bc the system doesn’t allow them access alternatives esp if the indigenous language was erased (like for me w arabic)

if you want to pronounce these neopronouns use (xe) zee (xyr) zee-irr or zee-err (xim) zim

also recognize that some ingenious languages have or have had alternatives for she/he pronouns. some even refer to each person just by name or by their lineage. language is so vast and beautiful. I mourn the numerous languages destroyed/altered by colonialism & imperialism
