I'm sorry
@wesstreeting
but accusing the NHS of complacency when I work in hospital conditions so brutal they can reduce the toughest, most professional doctors to tears is downright offensive.
Not a single member of my Trust is "complacent". Not one.
Why would you trash us?
Various adjectives describe NHS staff, from senior managers to frontline nurses & doctors - burned out, despairing, desperate, distressed, guilty, anxious, depressed, suicidal.
But complacency? Come on. We know better than anyone the NHS is on its knees - we long for change.
@doctor_oxford
I’m certainly not trashing NHS staff - on visits it’s often NHS staff highlighting the waste, inefficiency and case for improvements!
The complacency comes from the assumption that money will solve all the problems and that the money is there. If only that were true!
@wesstreeting
But Wes have you seriously met anyone, anywhere, who thinks simply that “more money will solve the NHS’s problems”? Pls point to anyone who claims this. It’s clearly not binary & never has been. *Both* reform & adequate funding urgently needed. Staff are desperate for reform too!
@doctor_oxford
@wesstreeting
I feel very greatly for all NHS staff whatever their remit. I cannot interpret Wes Streeting's interview in the same manner as you. None of the medical staff, porters, cleaners etc are responsible for the very real dangers of over-spending. He means management and Government.

@wesstreeting
I get so fed up about politicians talking about broken and complacent or whatever NHS- and saying how they’d reform it. It’s so different to my experience of working in it- it doesn’t need reforming- they just need to let us get on with it- instead of all the pettiness-

@wesstreeting
Labour are playing an obscene game, their spads are on the right, and are cultivating a neoliberal outcome for Starmer, Streeting is deployed to inspire the Tory voters who can afford private healthcare. Sunak’s 74 SEZs are installing patchworks of privately run sovereignties…
@doctor_oxford
@wesstreeting
Starmer might want to consider the latest polls, which indicate a fair slip in Labour's position and also that the NHS is the electorate's highest priority. Streeting is probably not his greatest electoral asset.

@wesstreeting
YOU don't have to convince you what you know is true, and you can't convince those who choose not to be convinced.
All you can do is hope 'they see the light' and see what you see. True in all walks of life currently.
@doctor_oxford
@wesstreeting
Seems to go out of his way to insult NHS staff, who is he trying to appeal to here? It's so incredibly disappointing, especially from a Labour politician. Even after all these years and the prospect of a new govt, we are still completely sideless.
Wes Streeting's financial links to the private healthcare sector since the last General Election wouldn't fit into one screenshot🚨
So we've popped them all below👍
