Muybridge's work was commissioned by Leland Stanford, the industrialist, former Governor of California, and horseman, who was interested in horse gait analysis. Legend has it that Stanford had a wager to prove all four feet of a horse left the ground when it ran.

Robert Capa was a Hungarian-born photojournalist known for his daring & dramatic war photography. He covered major conflicts such as the Spanish Civil War, World War II, & the First Indochina War, capturing iconic images that have become symbols of the brutality and chaos of war.

Our next workshop is coming up ... Toning - a day exploring different ways of toning your darkroom prints. Including using Halochrome, a toning technique that gives your prints a metallic mirror silver finish (judging the second pic - quite hard to photography successfully 📷 )

Polaroid founder Edwin Land announced the SX-70 at a company annual meeting on this day in April 1972. On stage, he took out a folded SX-70 from his suit coat pocket and in ten seconds took five pictures, both actions impossible with previous Land Cameras. .

Lee Miller was an American photographer & photojournalist. Also a fashion model in New York in the 1920s. In the 30's she moved to Paris, to be a fashion & fine art photographer, working with Man Ray as his student, muse and lover. In WWII, she was a war correspondent for Vogue.

2nd April 1845 - French physicists Leon Foucault & Louis Fizeau made the first successful photo of the sun. In a major technological feat, they pointed their camera at Earth’s star and made an exposure of 1/60th of a second. The image was a daguerrotype about 4.7 inches diameter.
