Use of bioRχiv is erupting, but it is not a viable solution to the problems of academic publishing because it's a pit stop, not the finish line If we want to reform academic publishing we need to take the good parts of preprint servers but also solve their problems🧵1/8

Brilliant post. A must-read if you want to know how academia and academic publishing works, and why it’s so broken.
Many outside academia don’t appreciate how broken academic publishing and peer review are. They might have heard that science can be politicised or corrupted, or that journals exploit researchers, but they’re not sure how. I’ve written a 2-part essay on this topic. (1/6)

We’ve raised $100 million that we will put to work for creators and their audiences. Ownership for creators. Agency for audiences. Substack is a network built in service of people who care about culture. I’m pumped for this. Now we go big.

Before this interview, I knew about @MikeNayna's involvement in the grievance studies affair but it turns out there's so much more to his story. @stellaomalley3 rather hilariously dubbed him the Forrest Gump of the culture war because he found himself involved in so many of its

THE NETWORK SCHOOL We got an island. That’s right. Through the power of Bitcoin, we now have a beautiful island near Singapore where we’re building the Network School. We’re starting with a 90-day popup that runs from Sep 23 to Dec 23, right after the Network State Conference.

For 4 years, I've worked for a company I cannot name on this platform. It's been a great joy, as we've brought hundreds of millions of dollars to independent creatives of all kinds and built alternative spaces for communities and scenes to thrive; and also I love my colleagues.

@elonmusk Elon, I've been trying to get your attention - https://t.co/J3fDl2j0A1 - I want to make a documentary about the new vs legacy media war. I can scale back your involvement to something less involved, but a lot will fall into place if we can do an interview. Please consider it.
Hey, @elonmusk Michael is a brilliant director!

Take my money!
@elonmusk I’d like to make a documentary about your purchase of X, the new/legacy media war, and this lawsuit. Can I get two sit down interviews and access to film scenes around the suit? You won’t regret it.

" 'The Reformers' is the kind of product we need in the 21st century, yet another topic traditional filmmakers wouldn’t touch. Part horror story, part cultural reckoning, the docuseries is a fascinating snapshot of Western culture on the precipice." 1/2
