Just had the chance to visit China. Many thanks AEGIC. Key learnings: Brewing industry now "mature", beer volumes falling (50mt to 35mt). Premium beer segment now 40% driving a move to Malt 1 from FAQ. Big growth sector is feed barley due to demand for meat products. @InterGrain1

Maximus CL and Spartacus CL have a similar g*e pattern - the way they respond to different environments is similar. Neo CL and RGT Planet also have similar g*e patterns, but the pattern of adaptation for these varieties is different to Maxi/Spartacus CL.@intergrain1 @agrobaz

I would love to hear from anyone that is sowing Maximus CL and Neo CL at the same time in April this year, and who could record the date of awn peep for both varieties, and then the final yield performance. Maybe worth a 6 pak of a special brew of Neo CL!! @intergrain1 @agrobaz

Are the g*e patterns of Maximus/Spartacus versus Neo CL/Planet explained by phenology? Maybe not. Check out this great data by @BlakelyPaynter on time to flowering for different sowing dates. Looks like Maximus and Neo are surprisingly similar. @agrobaz @intergrain1

After many years enjoying being in the barley industry, it is great to be able to give a bit back. Here amongst a wonderfully diverse set of barley lines with 4 PhD students I am helping by co-supervising.
