Think it’s important for schools to consider this when planning their online provision. There will be many parents/ carers really struggling at the moment to balance work with home schooling. Another reason why Gav is wrong to say live lessons are best.

@darynsimon We’re not doing live lessons but parents still very involved. It’s not our intention they do all this but they want to cos they’re supportive &fab. It’s an unrealistic expectation of them I think. The “rules” take away our ability to respond to our community. Which is my mantra.

@darynsimon Not just parents. Anxiety and depression in young people is also a huge worry right now!

@tillyti09882358 Yes, totally agree. That’s why I think we need to be realistic with expectations for everyone concerned.

@darynsimon We’ve had videos made for our lessons which I thought was the perfect balance. Get to see the teacher but can do it in our own time.

@fletchybels Yeah, same. There’s also a 30 min Zoom catch up with a 1/3 of the class every Friday which is nice.

@darynsimon But also live lessons could actually help, you need to know your parents. Many of my friends are struggling because the work being set it not able to be done independently so they have to do it with their child.

@nourishworkplce I’m not arguing against live lessons but I do think simply trying to move school online might be unrealistic and unsustainable for pupils, teachers and parents.

@darynsimon Absolutely this mate. We are very fortunate in having high speed broadband, devices of our own we can all work on & my kids are good ages, yet it is still a challenge at times when all of us are ‘live’. Imagine what it’s like without all that! GW totally detached from reality 🤬

@darynsimon Absolutely. A friend at work has four kids all learning from home now. He's fortunate to have a good wage, but that is four sets of equipment needed and space for them to learn. Without even starting on support required. We're in the middle of a pandemic. Wellbeing first please.

@darynsimon I have told all of my parents to do what they can. I'm in the same parenting/working boat & I can't keep up. I tried & ended up stressed, upset, anxious & felt like I was letting everyone down. We use pre-recorded lessons because then parents can choose what works best.
