I’m super proud of this piece, and so excited to have it featured in the Digital Artist in Residence Exhibition at @ToledoMuseum I love that it started as a digital image that was inspired by Plate with Pyramus and Thisbe - a 16th century ceramic work in the TMA collection.

…the interactive pieces, in particular, were great. Sliding levers and throwing switches on @_deafbeef’s Glitchbox; poring over the details and NFC tapping treasure chests embedded in @danhernandezorg’s Hero’s Journey. My discoveries even led to a free “mint” of a physical

This project grew my curatorial practice and catapulted me—a late medievalist by training—into a new world of digital art. I’m so grateful to have played a part in bringing your vision to reality, @yatreda, and to have been so embraced by the community ❤️

I’ve been using this character in my work for a while. It’s derived from the Mayan calendar symbol- Aq’ ab’ al. In Mayan culture the symbols represents dawn, dusk, light, darkness, and the transition between the two. It also symbolizes the beginning of new ventures or projects.

A very nice interview with the inspiring director of the Toledo Museum of Art. Adam Levine leads an incredible team that brought Abyssinian Queen into the museum’s permanent collection and continues to ensure the artwork’s preservation for the future. Thanks for the shoutout!

I’ve been working with this motif since about 2019. The sketch featured in this post was made in the margin of an Arts Commission Board Meeting Agenda. I doodled it during a meeting. It’s one of the first iterations of the motif. The idea for this motif was born in a retro

So…. I often have no idea what I’m doing - until Im doing it. Discovery is a huge part of my process. One of my favorite quotes is by the author E.L. Doctorow. It goes something like this - “Writing is like driving at night in the fog. You can only see as far as the
