PhD Physicist turned Data Scientist. Renaissance man (polymath, polyglot, autodidact, classical musician, epicure). Exactly as pretentious as I seem.

Everyone on here is liking things as a way of giving feedback to the algorithm about what you want to see more of in your feed, right? People aren't just liking things they agree with and blocking things they disagree with so as to thereby construct their own echo chamber, right?

It seems we need to bring back Radio Free Europe because the shadow of totalitarian authoritarian censorship has once again fallen across the continent.
When European companies do business in the US, they abide by US law. US business in the EU is very profitable and must respect EU law. Simple, clear and hardly disputable.

People take economic growth for granted. But in the background there are millions of these improvements happening below your awareness. They happen because people you have never met are informed of your desires and motivated to work to satisfy them by market prices.

I think one reason our culture has become more coarse, selfish, and money obsessed is that the public is more aware and condemnatory of hypocrisy, so people default to living their more base values, turns out a certain amount of hypocrisy is socially load bearing

Pension obligations for Boomers is one of the main techtonic forces driving decline across the Developed World
Funniest thing about Germany soft-pedaling conscription back in ("voluntary national service" but it becomes compulsory if not enough volunteers) is that on the very same morning they voted in a pensions increase. Hard to imagine a better metaphor for European gerontocracy.

Seeing a lot of Hollywood calls for the FTC to block the Warners sale, and I get the emotions behind them, but guys, there is no regulatory magic which can save the feature film. It is going to die, because the technological conditions that created it have changed.

People who don't like Indians due to religion or cuisine are always looking for a post hoc rationalization that will convince people who don't share their aversion.
I don't believe this even slightly. South Asian Americans have a homicide rate that's on par with East Asians. They also (pictured) misbehave in schools at similar rates to East Asians. They also have similar measured IQs to East Asians, and they tend to have higher incomes!

The old gatekeepers delegitimizing the idea of an Overton Window by abusing their power to enforce it has destroyed out ability to preclude nonsensical outcomes like this.
The Trump administration just removed two national holidays (MLK and Juneteenth) as free entry days to National Parks and put his birthday as a free day instead. Yes, this is actually real.

People are pointing out that it's cocaine instead of fentanyl because the pro extra judicial killing propagandists are falsely claiming it is fentanyl and citing fentanyl deaths to justify their flagrantly immoral and unlawful killings
I'm starting to hear Leftists say "It's just cocaine on those boats, not fentanyl" as if cocaine is kind of like drinking a beer on July 4th weekend. Wrong.

I challenge anyone to read this book after skipping phonics to do whole word learning. Does your whole word learning curriculum include "Clawitzer?" Didn't think so.

Almost every single Postliberal of note over age 40 adhered to the same basic authoritarian beliefs in ca. 2006 that they still hold today. This belies the claim that Postliberalism arose in response to some more recent "crisis" of liberalism.

@davidharsanyi Kinda funny that after Vance's circuitous political journey he'd wind up adopting the principles that led to the ruin of Appalachia.
