I’m deeply moved to have been appointed to House of Lords. The NHS has shaped my life, work, & values. it’s where I learned what care, compassion, & public service truly mean. I hope to carry that spirit forward in this new role, speaking up for patients & health professionals

The BMA opposed the NHS at its founding. Now, with more strikes planned, it risks hastening its collapse. Every delay and cancelled op strengthens those who argue the NHS no longer works. We must fight for the NHS — not just for ourselves.

Tomorrow is my debut at @edinfringeguide - 50 minutes to save the #nhs. @RCSEd 1-2pm you think defending PA’s is stressful. Try doing stand up comedy with @drphilhammond

'I'm there as the Wise to his Morecambe, the Laurel to his Hardy. I’ll be the voice of reason and evidence, and he’ll be trying to demolish it.' @ClareGerada and @drphilhammond sat down with Pulse to explain why they're performing at the Edinburgh Fringe https://t.co/rNxEcuz0vN

There is something very anticlimactic about postal voting. I miss the thrill of going to the voting booth.

Great. Important to also engage with GPs. We have for too long been forgotten. Without us the #nhs cannot deliver what it needs to for our patients, communities and tax payer.

I have spoken to the BMA junior doctors committee, and can announce that talks to end their industrial action will begin next week. We promised to get negotiations up and running and that is what we are doing. My statement-

So enjoying being a grandmother. Seeing a baby learn something new every week and beginning to gain more and more control of their body and environment is sheer joy (and very messy!)

We need an urgent review of the proliferation and effectiveness of mandatory & statutory training requirements for health care staff.

I wish the incoming government would review the massive proliferation of statutory bodies which inspect, monitor, regulate and investigate health care staff. Yet not a single one to address their emotional and well being needs.

Any new Government has a moral duty to care for those who care for us. This means addressing causes of suffering; workload, loss of ‘belonging’ , lack of flexibility in training, lack of careers advise from start to finish, lack of time to care/think, as well as pay & conditions.

Rishi Sunak: I will bring back National Service - The Telegraph> I can’t help agreeing with ⁦@muirgray⁩ that maybe us oldies who should engage in national service (if able). There’s lots of us and it would be a good way of saying ‘thank you’

British MPs are attacking abortion rights. We can’t follow the same path as the US> excellent piece. We must all fight to preserve the rights we have.
