Excited to share our recent paper! In this paper @scholarjacosua, @DespagneColette and I examine how forced returnees that have lived for an extended period outside their country of birth construct citizenship when they are forced to return.

It's gotten ZERO attention but this law authorizes state AGs like Ken Paxton to seek court orders forcing the executive branch to detain and deport specific people, overturn individual humanitarian parole decisions, and most worryingly, cease issuing visas to entire countries.

264-159: The House passes the Laken Riley Act, which would require DHS to detain undocumented immigrants charged with theft-related crimes. 48 Democrats voted with all Republicans present. The measure now moves to the Senate, where at least one Dem senator has backed it.

I really admire Paola Ramos's reporting, and the empathy she shows her subjects. I believe that colonialism and trauma have limitations as explanations, yet "Defectors" is a significant contribution to the literature on Latinos and the right. Read here if you want to know more.

In a new book, the journalist Paola Ramos advances a unified theory of why more Latinos are supporting Donald Trump. But such a theory risks ignoring the diversity of this demographic’s experience. https://t.co/dzGqqukBlM

Promising to extend Pres. Biden’s border crackdown, prosecute repeat crossers and curtail asylum, Vice President Harris yesterday solidified Democrats’ rejection of U.S. asylum law as currently written. It’s a shift that would’ve been unthinkable in 2020. https://t.co/oW5CYFpnYA

Migrants are not coming here to vote. In fact, there is no evidence at all that noncitizen voting is a serious concern. Last month I took a look at the Heritage Foundation's own database of noncitizen voting cases—and reveal how it debunks their own myth.
americanimmigrationcouncil.org
A close examination of the evidence put forward by critics shows just how extraordinarily rare noncitizen voting truly is.

Looking forward to being on this great panel on Monday at the CIDE in Mex City to talk about the iron river of guns from US to México and how it drives the masacres and mass graves south of the border. It'll be on Zoom and YTube. This is an issue where we can make a difference.

Over 100K new high school grads --most who came here as children--can't apply for work permits. Shut out of #DACA, history is repeating itself, as a new anxious generation is forced to languish in the shadows. Congress needs to act now. https://t.co/kEDOO2vaol @PresImmAlliance

One thing Biden is doing that Trump DID NOT do in his asylum ban: the admin. is making it HARDER for asylum-seekers from having the chance to enter the U.S. and get lesser forms of protection in court after being denied asylum.

Today, the #Biden administration announced plans to increase criminal prosecutions for immigration violations at the border. To be clear: increased prosecutions for immigration violations do not deter migration and ONLY CAUSE HARM.

This is an important step. 🇲🇽 consulates need to do more in terms of supporting Mexicans facing deportation, such as ensuring that Mexican passports issued by consulates in the 🇺🇸 are valid in Mexico. #accesstoidentity
