CHS will have a traditional, in-person graduation on June 4. The ceremony will be outdoors, and the location is to be announced, according to Dean Marci Tuzinsky.

The BOE has voted 5-2 to continue with the current plan. The no votes were by Trustees Gaynor and Querijero.

The AAPS Board of Education is currently meeting to vote on whether or not to continue with the current return to learning plan.

The AAPS will be offering a drive-thru, PCR salvia testing event at Huron High School on Saturday, April 24 from 12 noon - 4 p.m. More details to come.

The fall return to fully in-person is based on vaccination rates, local case levels and ability to test and mitigate spread.

Students who are fully vaccinated and not showing any symptoms do not have to quarantine in case of a covid case at school, Jenna Bacolor, executive director of the AAPS Community Divison, clarifies.

Swift reiterates that the AAPS is planning for a full five-day-a-week in-person return for fall 2021. There will be no hybrid instruction plan but families still have a choice of a fully virtual learning program if desired.

Superintendent Swift clarifies standardized tests are "opt-in". "The focus of our teachers and our teams really must be around teaching and learning, both for those in-person and in virtual," Swift said. "We want to minimize disruptions to that very critical instructional time."

The AAPS Board of Education is currently meeting to discuss reopening and building construction updates.

"This is a different kind of infection rate in that it is infecting younger individuals," Swift says in her update of reopening progress. Covid cases are worse than ever, but the AAPS has a greater understanding of how to address the situation, Swift said.

Reema Jarjoura, an AAPS parent and teacher on the board of the Ann Arbor Arab American Group, shared an update including ways to learn about Arab American culture and an invitation to the AAPS to approve a proclamation designating April as Arab American Heritage Month.

On April 9, CHS administrators commenced the lottery for hopeful CHS students. Official enrollment is due by April 23 at 5:00 P.M.

On Feb. 8, 2021, the starting gun fired and, 3:57.66 later, CHS senior Hobbs Kessler made history. Running the fastest indoor high school mile ever, Kessler also became the eleventh high schooler to break the lucrative four-minute mark.

Due to the delayed return to hybrid, in-person learning, classes on April 8 and 9 will now be held synchronously, 9th grade orientation is postponed to April 22 and 23 and standardized testing dates are pushed back to April 27 - 29. (2/2)
