I am looking for a #PostDoc in the frame of this exciting project. Somebody out there willing to work with #microbiome metabolic modelling and some #archaea? Please contact me, or check the link below, for some details.
We are recruiting!! Are you interested in Immunometabolism research? We have open Postdoc and PhD positions in within our Special Research Progamme (SFB) to study the metabolic interplay of macrophages with tissue cells: https://t.co/5Cjy2x6i9A Please RT! #immunometabolism

Bacterium: “Archaea? Yeah, they’re alright. Quiet, peace-lovi....aaaargggh, STOP! STOP IT! WHAT IS HAPPENING??” [silence] Archaeon: “Mwahahaha” (probably) Discover the dark side of archaea in our latest pre-print, led by @romainstrock

The social life of archaea is poorly understood. In particular, even though competition and conflict are common themes in microbial communities, there is scant evidence documenting antagonistic...

Check out our new paper on metabolite release by marine nitrifiers and how B vitamin precursors can facilitate nitrifier-heterotroph interactions in the ocean. Thanks to all coauthors who contributed to this nice, collaborative project. 🌊 https://t.co/KUQdEHkFYA

Abstract. Microbial chemoautotroph-heterotroph interactions may play a pivotal role in the cycling of carbon in the deep ocean, reminiscent of phytoplankto

Happy to share our new paper on the characterization of MSTV1, an archaeal virus infecting Methanobrevibacter smithii, the dominant archaeon in the human gut. This was a beautiful collaboration between @mkrupovic and @SGribaldo labs. 👇🧵 https://t.co/oeeohQa0c6

A couple new papers from the group, largely showing so-called "negative results", but with important connotations for the care of preterm infants. Both papers are open-access so I will provide only key bits here. A small thread 🧵:

We used in silico metabolic modeling, "candy" bacteria, and selected the samples for enrichment based on the methane-breath emission of the donors - and we could grow nine novel strains of Methanobrevibacter smithii and Cand. M. intestini.

New #archaeome paper alert! Growing human #archaea is sometimes really a pain, but we found a way to cultivate Methanobrevibacter species in a very targeted way:

For all people who sequence genomes of new microbes 🦠 , this might be a useful pipeline for you developed by Richard, a PhD student in my lab. The cool thing is that he not only develops such tools and pipelines but freely shares it with the community to support open science 👍!
Do you want to publish your genomes to @seq_code ? Maybe my #Snakemake pipeline could be of interest to you! It quickly lets you check if your assemblies reach the required criteria and gives you an easy to read report like this as an output 🙂 https://t.co/yH7FM4YOfi

2006 the Methanosphaera stadtmanae genome was sequenced and "adhesin-like proteins" (aka "asn/thr-rich large proteins") discovered. Time to revisit the proteins (and those of M. smithii) with structure predictions. #adhesiome #methanogens #gut #microbiome
