A second gender alert was issued this year in seven municipalities, including Neza and Chimalhuacán, for the high number of disappearances. They are part of the eleven municipalities in which already exists a gender alert because of femicides.

Victims are frequently tortured or sexually abused before their deaths. 47% of women who have disappeared are between 10 and 17 years old.

They’ve blocked a major crossroad in protest. A few schools are nearby and girls have disappeared in these streets. #Edomex

There hasn’t been any improvements in the states with a gender violence alert. Money intended for the program has been misused. In October, an investigation from the outlet Sin Embargo revealed the funds were spent on key-rings and refrigerator magnets as part of the campaign.
