"dont like dont read" actually predates ao3 and tagging culture and means that if you're reading something and see something you dislike you click off instead of yelling at the author
we are LOOSING the plot dude the whole point of “don’t like don’t read” is looking at the tags…🤦♀️ it is 100% an authors job to tag wtf

@cham_twts Yeah but like.. you need to know that the thing you don't like is in it, so you can avoid it. If the person has to read the fic to know it's there, it ruins the entire point. That's why tagging fics is important.

@twumblunni i didn't say tagging fics wasn't important. i just pointed out that's not what "don't like, don't read" originally meant

@cham_twts yeah but like the reason people want tags is because some subjects are sensitive for them and no one is yelling at authors. like you dont Have to tag but you also dont have to hold a door open for someone i feel like it is Not a crazy ask

@BlutBaer i once got a death threat because i didn't tag who topped and bottomed in a fic where the sex scene was 3 paragraphs out of 40k words

@cham_twts Right, like, either be able to exit out without ruining your whole day, or *only* click on the tags you like. Stop trying to make your problems everyone else’s problem.

@cham_twts Don't like don't read was always used with something else alongside as a if you don't like (yaoi, boy/boy, lemon, lime) don't read. It's pretty fair to say that it's always been used alongside a marker of what you might not like in the fic.

@cham_twts "it is 100% an authors JOB" LOL I don't remember being paid for fics and especially for tagging

@cham_twts That was never a real thing, in the early 2000s if you wrote a G-rated gay ship fic, 100% of the time you’d get homophobes yelling abuse at you in the reviews
