I took a walk in HSR Layout recently. Here's what I realised: 1. Footpaths are inaccessible due to encroachment 2. Inaccessible footpaths aren't maintained 3. Unmaintained footpaths become dumping spots 4. Dumping spots become toilets It all starts with encroachment.

@caleb_friesen2 It’s a cartel, mate, well planned & executed. Politicians & officials from all departments are involved. And then there are ignorant public who sympathise with street vendors.

@StoicOnWheels Yeah, I'm seeing this on the reel I posted on Instagram. People are saying the vendors have been forced to be here, and that they won't have a livelihood without encroaching. Just seems like a terrible mismanaged situation. Footpaths are for walking, markets for selling.

@caleb_friesen2 You’ve rightly pointed out that footpaths are meant for walking! Sadly, most #Bangalore footpaths are encroached, and @GBA_office does little about it. Now waiting for someone to comment, “your video has cost many their livelihood.” #footpath #Bangalore #walking @avi

@vevck @GBA_office @avi Yeah this is already happening on IG. Apparently I have misunderstood the socioeconomic and political context of India and Bengaluru.

@caleb_friesen2 Bro’s on a mission now, although we need more local influencers to help him in this journey.

@ssidtwt Yeah mainly I just see people snapping pics and sending me saying, "Can you also make a video about this place?" People could join the Footpath Fam and make videos themselves, but for some reason they don't 😥

@RealconSz1145 Yeahhh... But it's the thought that counts 😅 plus nobody can smell it through their phone screen so I chose to omit this detail. But you're right. When the breeze blows in your direction it's stinky.

@caleb_friesen2 Dear @DKShivakumar If ₹27,000 crore can be allocated for tunnels, surely ₹2- 3,000 crore can be invested to make Bengaluru walkable. It is embarrassing that people from abroad immediately understand the importance of pedestrian-friendly infra, yet our admin refuses to

@caleb_friesen2 @PCMohanMP @ShobhaBJP @Tejasvi_Surya What are you guys doing to improve the footpath situation in Bengaluru? Asking you guys as I have little hopes from @siddaramaiah and @DKShivakumar , who are busy fighting Garbage Mafia 🥴🤡

@caleb_friesen2 @GBAChiefComm, please, with utmost urgency, clear footpath encroachments and maintain them, yaar! Livability demands this basic necessity, no?

@caleb_friesen2 Real-estate is expensive in Bangalore, especially areas like HSR layout, Koramangala,BTM, Jayanagar. Even footpath is not free, footpath encrochers payment rent to SOMEBODY, everyone knows who that SOMEBODY is, it's open "Secret".

@caleb_friesen2 Such encroachment is there across many areas of Bangalore, @BlrCityPolice gets some amount from these footpath encroachers.. you can see them taking 50-100rs daily from these illegal establishments...

@caleb_friesen2 I guess, HSR building owners are the biggest contributors to the Bribe bucket of BBMP officials and cops. Nothing else justifies this.
HSR Layout is single handedly bringing down Bangalore’s walkability score. The apathy is absolute. Walking here, despite having broad footpaths, feels like taking part in Takeshi’s Castle. It’s a classic reflection of how lifeless the govt. machinery has become. @DKShivakumar

@caleb_friesen2 Let's create a fund to invite foreigners specifically for the purpose of making such content and publicly shame the people in charge. That seems to be our only hope.

@caleb_friesen2 Check out BTM 2nd stage 7th main cross road too. Footpath was 8-10 feet wide from both side and now it’s 3 feet. It’s just a joke in the name of pedestrians walk. Wider road just means more parking space for rich people.
