in my experience in 15 years of fandom, when a ship is too canon & too perfect, there’s very little impetus for ppl to write for it. when a ship is absolutely doomed af, it spawns an unbelievable amount of desperate fix-it fics from fans trying to patch the hole in their heart.
i think a lot of people, esp those entering fandom/shipping spaces for the first time, need to hear this: canon ships are not by default the most popular ship, nor 'deserve' to be. that is not how fandom has worked nor will it ever work on that principle. if it did, we wouldn't--
