Delayed post here but I’m thrilled to say that I defended my thesis last month @RCA and passed my PhD. Retouching the Archive is a practice-led project on the role of women in the making of early photography 1780-1846. It combines archival research and contemporary art practice.

The workshop will coincide with the exquisite work of Siân Davey. Davey's 'The Garden' is showing at Stills as part of Edinburgh Art Festival 2025.

The thesis and exhibition were examined by Professor Annebella Pollen @annebella_pollen and Professor Kelley Wilder, and the viva chaired by Dr Esther Teichmann. Truly, I could not have hoped for a better viva experience.

Quite simply, none of this would have been possible without the tireless support and guidance of my supervisors, Professor Gemma Blackshaw & Professor Rebecca Fortnum. What a privilege to have two people you admire push you to make your best work.

In the project I explore the contributions of three women who lived and worked in Scotland: Elizabeth Fulhame, Mary Somerville and Elizabeth Johnston Hall.
