As great as Connor McDavid was an as lucky as the team was in the end, it isn’t easy to figure that performance was a turning point on their second rate season. So many turnovers, brain dead defensive plays and disjointed efforts on offence.

Unbelievable. If you don’t believe Connor McDavid is the greatest hockey player in the world you weren’t watching. Two solo magic acts to bring the Oilers back and a lucky goal shorthanded in last minute. And another break in OT to win it. Next seven on the road. HUGE WIN.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins isn’t the most rugged player in the history of hockey. But he hasn’t missed many games. He’s played 975. But on injured list for a week.

Every team in the NHL has at least two players who played in the Brick Invitational WHEN THEY WERE TEN. (Plug for book out later this season). For tonight’s visiting Columbus Blue Jackets they include Cole Sillinger and Zack Werenski.

Nice weekend for Nathan MacKinnon. Four points against Edmonton and five against Vancouver.

Well, at least if you paid for a ticket to attend Saturday night’s Oilers travesty, you could day you witnessed history. According to Sportsnet Stats, the 9-1 loss to Colorado was tied for the worst loss in Oilers history. It ended up tied with a 2009 pratfall versus Buffalo.

If you are a member of the sports media in Edmonton don’t take Sunday off. When you are losing 8-1 at home after 50 minutes, you have to do something. Can’t fire head coach. Just gave him contract extension. So make a big trade? Be my bet.

After two, Edmonton now requires an unconverted touchdown or a couple of field goals to come back and win this one.

Until now, despite their disjointed start to the season the Edmonton Oilers could claim they hadn’t lost a home game in regular season. But eight minutes into the second period they’re down 4-0 to the Colorado Avalanche.

Just for the heck of it I looked up current temperatures in CFL cities. Montreal -1. Ottawa +1. Toronto +2. Hamilton +2. Winnipeg -6. Regina -11. Edmonton -1. Calgary +1. Vancouver. +8. Don’t believe it. It’s wonderful in Saskatchewan.

Four CFL teams prove to be virtual equals through just a few seconds under 60 minutes on West/East Final weekend. It should be pick em for the Grey Cup. But I pick Saskatchewan over Montreal because of Riders defence in last two minutes.

What a fabulous finish in both get-to-the-Grey Cup games. For the first time in more than a decade the Saskatchewan Roughriders are going to the Grey Cup and it’s in Winnipeg where they’re the Labour Day banjo bowl enemy. Comeback last minute TD comeback in minus 14 weather.

Gee. I was ragging CFL East Final 3-0 late in first half. It’s 1-0 in the second quarter in West final.

A final second walk-off 44-yard field goal breaks a 16-16 tie to send Jason Maas and the Montreal Alouettes are off to the Grey Cup. And the league’s longest drought of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats dating back to 1999 continues.

At halftime in CFL East Final in +7C weather the score is 6-3. Betcha in -8C in Regina in the West Final in -9C weather it’ll be more like 16-13.
