Anonymous credentials are going to have a big year. In the realm of "fancy" cryptography, they're perhaps the most important primitive we'll need to make PQ. Where do we stand? Lena Heimberger spent part of the summer finding out.

@sejaques @CraigGidney So when will Q-day be? The joke is that experts say it's always 15 years away. If you look up the Global Risk Institute interviews over the last few years, then experts do say it *could be* 15 years away for years.

@sejaques But more impressive than the progress on the hardware side, is @CraigGidney's optimisation of Shor's algorithms, single-handedly bringing Q-day closer by seven years (assuming that Willow's qubit count doubles every 18 months).

@sejaques Although it doesn't look impressive on the graph, the most impressive announcement on the quantum computing side is Google Willow's demonstration of a scalable quantum error correction architecture.

There is broad software support now with X25519MLKEM768 being enabled by default in OpenSSL 3.5.0, i/macOS 26, and more.

Highlights: Over half the human traffic with Cloudflare is already using PQC to protect against store-now/decrypt-later. (Up from 3%)
