I’m committing to taking no salary as a Senator and working to pass a bipartisan ban on stock trading by any sitting members of Congress.
I’ve dedicated my life to serving others. In the Senate, I’ll work for no one but you.
@buschvalentine
Good for you
@buschvalentine
! You should not be punished for having resources that others may not have. As long as you try to do right then that is all that matters. Stay strong as politics about now is truly a "blood sport".
@buschvalentine
What?? No, take the salary you'd be earning and turn around and donate it to help build Dem infrastructure & a candidate pipeline in Missouri—esp. the rural districts!
You are missing a golden chance here to show how your win would change our future quickly.
@buschvalentine
A "no salary" commitment that does nothing for someone who's already wealthy really just reinforces Congress as a rich person's club. The working class can't afford to not earn a salary. A stock trading ban would be great though.
@buschvalentine
Easy to say you won’t take a salary if you are wealthy but all it does is make it harder for normal people from normal backgrounds who don’t have piles of family money to work in politics
@buschvalentine
Working for us is preferable to fighting for us. I’m tired of hearing office seekers saying they will fight for us!
By the way my Great Grandfather, Frederick Valentine Horton,mother was Keziah Valentine.
@buschvalentine
The windfall members of Congress enjoy from investments informed by their activities in office usually dwarfs their compensation - declining compensation is ultimately a vacant gesture. Following through on the trading ban would not be vacant, so why not just focus on that?
@buschvalentine
Take the salary, please. There are so many people that would make good politicians, but they cannot afford to do it for free. You would set a bad precedent by refusing a salary.
You can donate the salary to a scholarship. Maybe pay for 5 - 10 people to get through college.
