Just to be clear, rumours that I programmed Poil de Carotte / 🥕 Carrot Top - screening at BFI Southbank tomorrow at 15.00 - in celebration of a certain famous royal red-head’s birthday are entirely untrue! @silentlondon @stephenstumm @SWSilents @silentfilmcal @BritishSilentFF

In 1899 Edward Callow would ‘invariably’ take foreign visitors to this London landmark - wish I could do the same! https://t.co/z3mvE52Cyq

Having moved to the US, Carolyn Seymour [Carolyn von Benckendorf] appeared in a dozen 80s shows, including as villainess Debbie DeFarge in a Modesty Blaise pilot based on the comic strip. As with so many pilots, the TV series was never picked up. Sparks composed the theme song.

Brilliant to hear Melvyn Bragg making the case for the arts transforming our society. As someone who works at the intersection between science and history, as an author and broadcaster - I couldn’t agree more.

“The arts are not the cherry on the cake — they are the cake.” Opening a debate in the House of Lords yesterday, Melvyn Bragg said the UK should realise the full potential of the arts to transform our economy and society.
