You know our family farm. What you may not know yet is I’ve written a book about a crisis we face — the untold history of America’s disappearing farmer, and our 100-year fight to survive. I’m so honored to announce Land Rich, Cash Poor: https://t.co/DRIt5Dkpv3

On 9/11 and other days that remind us what America stands for, I think of Grandpa. He was a farm boy who fought in WWII, worked hard all his life, lived through years of political assassinations, and never lost his optimism. Prayers for 🇺🇸 today. #911Anniversary #NeverForget

Something that will never get old: walking into a bookstore and seeing my family’s story on the shelf.

Sun coming up as you head for the Great Smoky Mountains is never a bad feeling.

Officially commemorating 10 years since I came back home to Wisconsin after six years of living in Nashville, TN and Washington, DC to find my way in a writing career. We were all pretty happy but my mom stole the show.

Fish tacos still count as a Friday fish fry in my book, but they gotta be damn good

Missing the home farm today, and have some time on the road before I’ll be back. But getting closer. Can’t wait to see the morning sun on my dad’s barn again soon.

Here’s the thing about fixing farm policy: it helps fix the health/cost of food, immigration, tariffs, mental health, national security, and more. We can’t keep losing places like this at the rate of 45K per year. Thanks @BradOnMessage for letting me show why in The What For.

Can’t believe I get to say this: “Land Rich, Cash Poor” just won a bronze medal in the national Readers’ Favorite Book Awards. Today is the launch of our new paperback edition, and I couldn’t be more grateful to all who have spread the word about America’s family farm crisis.

On Labor Day I always think of my dad, who worked with his hands and back all his life so my sister and I could have a choice for what we wanted to do with ours. Thank God for our farmers, workers, miners, and everyone else who helped build this country.

JD Vance, AOC, and Cracker Barrel all have something in common: They show Americans are pissed off at big business in a way we haven’t seen since Teddy Roosevelt. My take in @journalsentinel on facing reality and what to do about it https://t.co/THT86gqn4v

So proud of my 1-year-old daughter’s craftsmanship, had to hang it in the yard for all to see

Oh I should say I give Cracker Barrel credit for bringing back the old timer. And it’s not just because I’m a farm boy who likes a good country store. We should applaud any business — large or small, national or local — for listening to customers.

How you can tell Sierra Nevada beer is a real honest to God family business.

And yes I take my daughter to the bar. We’ve both got Wisconsin roots after all.

I would have never intended to treat my kids different than each other, and I hope to not if I can help it — whether we have another girl, or a little boy. I also don’t mean to raise Ana as a tomboy, or anything else on purpose. I want her to be what she wants to be.

Having a girl first softened me up in those early days, and opened me up to the lessons of parenting. It gave me a chance to be a better dad, and to be more prepared whether we have a boy one day or not.

This may not be popular, but I’d have been too hard on a boy. I’d have pictured too much of myself, had too many ideas about how he should be, and ended up being harder on him like I am myself. Whether we are cleaning my pickup or watching Disney, Ana throws me off in a good way.

I have a few things to say about being a girl dad. First of all, I’m glad we had a girl first. Like a lot of men, if I’m being honest I pictured a boy. But this little girl has taught me more than I ever could have imagined. She is my joyful surprise, every day.
