The 19th Borough President of Brooklyn
Brooklyn, NY
Joined May 2009
We need to #StopAsianHate — truly all forms of hate — by standing together fearlessly and putting real resources into combating these heinous crimes. Anyone who preys on our neighbors will face consequences. As a Black man who has faced bigotry, I feel this solidarity personally.

For years, Greenpoint and Williamsburg residents have fought to complete Bushwick Inlet Park. I've been proud to be part of that fight, allocating critically-needed funds and even leading a community sleep-out in 2016. Now we are taking another major step.

The city has allocated a bundle of money toward the fabled completion of Bushwick Inlet Park, promising $75 million for the development of the CitiStorage

His lessons of have inspired me throughout my journey as a public servant. One quote of his always stays with me: ‘There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they’re falling in.’ “Rest in power.

Last year, my office partnered with the Salvation Army’s Greater New York Division to donate 1,000 toys to children at New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)’s Howard Houses, Tilden Houses, and Van Dyke Houses.

This #TBT, so close to Christmas, I am always grateful for the good work of the Salvation Army’s Greater New York Division, which was there for me and my family during tough holiday seasons, and I know they will be there for so many families in need.

Happy Winter Solstice! Today marks the first astronomical day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere, which is also the day with the fewest hours of sunlight in the entire calendar year. The good news is that it also means we’re that much closer to the warmer days of summer.
