I seek to remind us today as the world celebrates the woman, that there are more important things to fight for. Happy International Womenโ€™s Day! #InternationalWomensDay2022 #BreakTheBias

I used to identify as a Feminist. I looked to the examples of the suffragists who marched for equal voting rights I looked to the examples of notable African women who fought for the right of the African girl child to access Education.

I looked to the examples of women everyday around me who despite the hurdles they faced, continuously achieved their goals. But recently, those who claim to be Feminists are not people I want to identify with.

They are those who are fighting misogyny with misandry forgetting that two wrongs donโ€™t make a right They are those who are kicking against basic human decency, forgetting that we are all capable of making our choices

They are those who seem to be limited by poverty and shortsightedness, fighting roles that a little money can solve They are those who are kicking against Godโ€™s order for marriage ignorant of the fact that He loves them more than they can ever love themselves

I realised that nowadays the feminism conversation is beginning to trivialise what those who started the movement fought for. There are more important things than cooking and cleaning. Some girls still have to face the horrors of genital mutilation

12 - 14 year olds are forced to feel the weight of a manโ€™s body even before they fully understand their own Female Engineers are still looked at as weird or not womanly because of the roles they occupy, I mean, someone once called me Egbere simply because I am an engineer

Women in Nigeria today cannot give their citizenship to their children. I mean, if a Nigerian woman getโ€™s married to a non-Nigerian, her children cannot identify as Nigerian I could go on and on

@bisolabadejo I just weak. Not even on IWD will feminist be left alone. Sister, why? Why can't we fight for as much as we can or choose too? Who creates these rules?

@bisolabadejo So men refusing these basic human rights to women are acts of love ? These men love us so much that they make us beg , and grovel and fight for things that should be ours by right of being human like them ? And how we fight the oppression is what's putting you off ? Lol !

@bisolabadejo You couldn't have put it any better. This is the exact thing I believe feminism to be. Misandrists and men-haters overtook or high jacked it.

@bisolabadejo There is nothing more important than women's liberation. From gender roles (cooking and cleaning) to marriage, to rape, religion, FGM all are equal important conversations. Just bcoz you don't know yet how these things oppress women doesn't mean they aren't important.

@bisolabadejo For the first time in my life I have met a feminist who is not a man hater but honestly wants gender equality. You are a wise person

@bisolabadejo This is the best write up Iโ€™ve seen on my TL. Honestly I say it always, I donโ€™t identify as a feminist only because majority have deviated from the core values of the founders and have made it a fight against men. Real feminism is far from that.

@bisolabadejo It's like you're trying not to say something but still saying it.... What is more important than all the things you mentioned , I mean fighting for them is feminism.
