I used to identify as a Feminist. I looked to the examples of the suffragists who marched for equal voting rights I looked to the examples of notable African women who fought for the right of the African girl child to access Education.

I looked to the examples of women everyday around me who despite the hurdles they faced, continuously achieved their goals. But recently, those who claim to be Feminists are not people I want to identify with.

They are those who are fighting misogyny with misandry forgetting that two wrongs donโ€™t make a right They are those who are kicking against basic human decency, forgetting that we are all capable of making our choices

They are those who seem to be limited by poverty and shortsightedness, fighting roles that a little money can solve They are those who are kicking against Godโ€™s order for marriage ignorant of the fact that He loves them more than they can ever love themselves

I realised that nowadays the feminism conversation is beginning to trivialise what those who started the movement fought for. There are more important things than cooking and cleaning. Some girls still have to face the horrors of genital mutilation

12 - 14 year olds are forced to feel the weight of a manโ€™s body even before they fully understand their own Female Engineers are still looked at as weird or not womanly because of the roles they occupy, I mean, someone once called me Egbere simply because I am an engineer

Women in Nigeria today cannot give their citizenship to their children. I mean, if a Nigerian woman getโ€™s married to a non-Nigerian, her children cannot identify as Nigerian I could go on and on

I seek to remind us today as the world celebrates the woman, that there are more important things to fight for. Happy International Womenโ€™s Day! #InternationalWomensDay2022 #BreakTheBias

@bisolabadejo this is so apt! this part of your tweet is what I see almost every time I look at a females profile here with the word in their bio. Feminism has been misinterpreted and we fail to realize that women standing up for injustice and inequality shown to their gender existed way
