Countries that are highly dependent on extractive industries tend to have higher levels of gender inequality. Find out more in @ReepAere, the REVIEW OF ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMICS AND POLICY: https://t.co/McKUHWkmP2

"Countries that are dependent on natural resource rents have greater gender inequality, lower education levels and more patriarchal norms, even after taking GDP per capita levels into account." https://t.co/NwnH5K1N16 by @TolonenAnja & Baum

Sarah Baum and I find that natural resource countries are less gender equal on average. @_alice_evans have an idea as to why, read the thread:
Resource dependence reduces female labour force participation, which thwarts progress towards gender equality. Thatโs why many Sub-Saharan African countries (like matrilineal Zambia) were probably more gender equal BEFORE the exploitation of mineral resources in C20.
