PhD student at RHUL & part of the @ARIES_DTP Atmospheric Chemist speaking for the trees - like the Lorax but with more measurements and less ginger

We’ve been working in the #wetwoodland at @wakehurst_kew today installing dipwells for hydrological monitoring as part of the @wetwoodlands research network and supporting @batten_steph’s PhD. I’m excited to see what the data show!

https://t.co/leB3Pp8A4F Royal Holloway's mobile greenhouse gas lab measurements verified the very large methane emissions seen by satellite and our isotope and ethane measurements confirmed it was a gas pipeline leak @RHULEarthSci @RHULScience

The detection of methane by satellite raises hopes future leaks can be stopped more quickly.

Half a kilometre of cabling, two solar panels, 60m of boardwalk and our @LICOR_ENV CO2/CH4 analyser. Our fifth greenhouse gas monitoring hub is coming together with @RHhealthstudies @RHULEarthSci and @wakehurst_kew

I’m really excited to be helping expand the current gas flux measurement sites at Wakehurst to include a wet woodland site too!

And a view from on board - featuring @batten_steph in the Mission Scientist jumpseat as we sample methane emissions over Scottish wetlands for #ResearchRunway🛫💨

Photos from an unbelievably exciting day this week: sat in the jumpseat of @faam146’s research aircraft leading a flight aimed at characterising methane flux from peatland across the Flow Country. I’m still completely in awe of those views! Thanks to everyone involved! ✈️

Painting in an ancient woodland isn’t something I thought I’d be doing during a PhD, but here I am! More days spent setting up our wet woodland research site at @wakehurst_kew , GHG flux measurements soon to come!

Can you guess what this does? Join us @RoyalWelshShow to find out how it is helping us to assess the amount of carbon stored in a woodland. #FRatRWS

It’s a privilege to work in such a beautiful place, and it’s made better by working with such great people too. Been having a fun (and muddy!) few days setting up our measurement site in the wet woodland at @wakehurst_kew where we’ll measure GHG fluxes over the course of a year.
We’ve been taking soil cores from @wakehurst_kew #wetwoodland today, working alongside the Wakehurst team on nature based solutions for climate change research, monitoring GHG fluxes from different natural habitats. It’s a real joy spending time in Kew’s wild botanic garden!

Same place, a few months later. It’s a bit harder to spot my collars now! Enjoying seeing the change the seasons bring during my monthly sampling at @Forest_Research

Looking and feeling absolutely thrilled to put on some waders and get stuck in to my fieldwork at @Forest_Research this week, where I’ll be measuring greenhouse gas fluxes from the forest floor over the course of a year

A bit different to my PhD fieldwork, but I wanted to give some appreciation and post some photos from my amazing year working and flying with @faam146 whilst completing my masters in chemistry. Hopefully I’ll be flying on the 146 again!

Spent yesterday exploring a (very) wet woodland, helping out the team here with experiment set up and thinking about future methane flux measurements in the woodland- Thanks for inviting me!
Thanks to the team at @CamUniGeography and @RHULEarthSci for joining us, and for all the work by the @Wheatfen wardens and volunteers building the boardwalk for our research plot.
