Here in Chicago we studied where criminals’ guns come from: There are zero gun shops in Chicago. The guns largely originate from spots like Wisconsin, Indiana, Texas. If your neighbor uses his leafblower sloppily, you’ll end up with raking to do— even if your yard has no trees!

Abbott says “Chicago and LA and New York disprove the thesis” that stiffer gun laws prevent gun murders.

@arlenparsa Hey tell us about it! Canada is a distant second to the USA but we are still second, and it horrifies me. And that—despite our regulations—is largely because of our neighbour’s overflowing always plentiful supplies of guns.

@RomancingNope Lots of online gun stores won't ship to Chicago addresses. Apparently few websites are willing to, but generally speaking the gangbangers committing the majority of these crimes aren't the type who order guns online...

here's what republicans like greg abbott are really saying when they invoke "chicago" on gun violence: "n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er n***er"

@arlenparsa @Sifill_LDF The shooter in Buffalo got his high capacity magazine from somewhere other than New York State.

@arlenparsa And this example alone explains why gun laws should be at federally level.

@arlenparsa Live in Chicago area. Both sides should look beyond the surface. Poverty and the gangs/cycles that it grows/perpetuates are at the heart of the issue. 1 in 4 children live in extreme poverty.(income 50% below fed poverty line) Relatively small areas generate large % of gun crime

@arlenparsa Oh yeah? What about New York? All neighboring states have a no gun policy yet in the past month there have been 2 mass shooting near the subway and the city has one of the highest gun deaths in America. Explain that one? I’ll be waiting.

@arlenparsa Illinois itself isn't crazy strict and there is one gun shop in Riverside that sells a high percentage of guns that end up being involved in crime. And for whatever reason, the feds can't/won't shut it down for straw purchases.

@arlenparsa It's interesting when people mention Chicago when the FBI database lists Dayton, OH as MORE VIOLENT.
