Not sure how to feel about the piece. Nothing said was a lie. It invokes those conversations with older folks about assimilation and ensuring my generation forgot all traces of Mexico. We were meant to be gringos. To proudly proclaim No hablo Español.

Interesting! Have you read Martha Menchaca’s book, “Recovering History Constructing Race: The Indian, Black, and White Roots of Mexican Americans” Menchaca argues that Mexicans must recognize Black People in Mexico.
