This is the story of how a Captain America shield, complete with 150 lb force magnet, became the Supporters' Shield.
I'm told the true, forged by the supporters Shield didn't arrive from LA in time, so the
@PhilaUnion
got creative.
They were about to get a 16-inch pizza tray covered with a vinyl sticker when someone said, "Well, I do know a guy with a shield..."
Turns out the web manager's fiancee's sister's boyfriend is the proud owner of a full Captain America costume. We're not talking Halloween. Legit.
His name is Jeremy. He lives in Medford, which is quite literally Brenden Aaronson's hometown.
He told the Union he wasn't a sports fan but it sounded like a cool idea. The team drove to Medford, got the shield and used a heat gun to put the vinyl Supporters' Shield over top.
The magnet on the back -- powerful enough for it to stick and hold to the back of the costume, like I said LEGIT -- was so strong the heat guns got stuck to it during the process of applying the vinyl.
End result? F#%&ING AWESOME.
🚨 PROGRAMING NOTE 🚨
We've got an interview with Jeremy Sullivan, owner of the Captain America shield, and Jim Curtin on
@Extratime
today. Show drops at 5 pm ET anywhere you listen to podcasts and YouTube.
BREAKING: Via text,
@CapSully335
tells me he'd be willing to donate the "Supporters' Shield" to the
@PhilaUnion
as long as they replace his prized possession.
Ball is in your court, Union.

Cool Story! On a side note, how does
@MLS
mess this up not having the shield traveling with a responsible individual? That’s like Rob Manfred on the podium at the World Series... “Sorry Guys, we forgot the Trophy in NY.” 🤦♂️

@PhilaUnion
I’m still wondering how it hasn’t arrived from LA, yet...we’ve known TFC or Philly were going to win. It’s either LAFC didn’t want to let it go. Or DeJoy wanted to mess with Philly so he personally stopped the USPS delivery.

Literally my exact thought of “Did the just put an image onto a Captain America shield as the supporters shield” actually was right😂 this is awesome

So the story of a tin pot league still trying to claim rights off the backs of supports, but doesn’t have any foresight to assist in transport, decides someone randomly ranted to an IT guy to get a big ass sticker and a Halloween costume accessories and scrap one up.
Joke right?
