I am an aide for kids with autism and it’s crazy how tik tok romanticizes cute quirky autism when in real life I have to educate gen ed kids on what autism really is daily cuz they don’t get why my kids act the way they do.
@andee902
The amount of “I work with autistic kids/I have an autistic relative and they aren’t like this” in the comments is ridiculous. Ableism at its finest and talking over the voices of people who are actually autistic (once again) 🙄
@andee902
no, actually, there isn't. we are all neurodivergent now. the convenient thing about all the symptoms being interchangeable is that you can switch it up whenever you want, like an accessory.
@andee902
i followed this person on instagram a while ago bc she was sharing a lot of genuinely helpful resources for adhd and now all of her content is "ooooh AuDHD so quirky!!!" it's so embarrassing
@andee902
Not everything an autistic person does is a symptom of autism, but autism does color their experiences and being. Autistic people can do things that aren't direct symptoms but feel like symptoms because of how they experience said things.
@andee902
I mean in this specific post she isn’t describing anything as an autistic trait, YOU assigned that meaning to her words. Anyway this complaint really gives me graph of left handedness vibes;“why is everyone suddenly autistic??” Maybe bc the medical field sucks at dx?? Lmao
@andee902
I'm pretty sure she's just saying cool rocks are her special interest... I think some people here are misunderstanding what people are saying when they post things like this..
@andee902
Gonna be entirely honest, I find this kind of post to be very strange. Does it really effect you that some people are eager to claim/state they have autism? Even if they don’t what does it matter to you?
@andee902
adhd and ocd too :/ everyone on tiktok thinks everything is an adhd symptom and a lot of people have started calling everything an intrusive thought . it sucks bc it leads to people having no idea how severe these disorders actually are
@andee902
It annoys the people with autism. Like you can be an ally without also saying you have autism. It’s fine be yourself… but you’re probably not at an appreciable point on the spectrum.
