Pinning to profile. Thanks always to @ncats_nih_gov for getting me back on track in research & @genome_gov for continuing that thread. Fingers crossed I can sustain this re-threading!.

Don't quite know what to say. I am also this rare person who is still ESI in reality (due to my 5-year hiatus & NIH-funded re-entry) but can't have the title for it - so I fall under the EI/NI category. At this rate, I don't think I will ever make my first R01.
The R01 Grant pay-line is at the 4th %-ile at @theNCI (4 out of 100 reviewed grants will be awarded this year). “expect to fund through the 4th percentile for those EI/NI applications”. Funding Policy.NCI Full Year Funding Policy for RPG Awards FY 2025.

I am not able to just retweet this - but in this fleeting life, I've had the privilege of receiving the support of this great man @atulbutte (for over a decade of my career as well as science-adjacent programs we developed at Stanford). I don't know how one reconciles this.
Atul Butte died yesterday. The world lost a giant. A big bear of a man. With a huge smile. With love for everyone. With energy that could power a room. I loved everything about Atul. I loved how he was always happy. I loved how excited he was about science and helping people.

Grateful for this new voice in our din. May your voice resound!. ☮️.
War is never inevitable. Weapons can and must fall silent, for they never solve problems but only intensify them. Those who sow peace will endure throughout history, not those who reap victims. Others are not enemies to hate but human beings with whom to speak.
