Hepatitis B can be passed from parent to baby at birth - and when that happens, the consequences can be deadly. It is unscientific & dangerous to ignore the success of U.S. vaccination programs or argue that the U.S. should not vaccinate babies for hepatitis B at birth.

Today's ACIP meeting is usually a time where experts come together to inform the future of vaccines. That is not what today will be. That is not what we can stand behind. The AAP will continue to recommend its own childhood vaccine schedule -- just as we have since the 1930s.

6/ Pediatricians have always worked with parents to make medical decisions for their children, focused on our shared goal of keeping children healthy and safe. And we always will.

5/ Extensive research has demonstrated that the MMR vaccine is safe. Two doses are 97% effective at preventing measles, a disease that can lead to severe complications and death. But new ACIP members have a history of embracing anti-vaccine organizations and conspiracy theories.

4/ Childhood vaccines have been carefully studied—including with placebos—to ensure they’re safe and effective. But new ACIP members were selected by RFK Jr, who has falsely claimed that vaccines are not rigorously reviewed or tested.

3/ Strict conflict of interest rules kept the process focused on safety and evidence. But HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. replaced every single ACIP member with loyalists and people known for spreading anti-vaccine misinformation.
