cultural criticism that cuts into matters of race, class, gender, etc.—anything with a true "edge"—can't be as easily pitched to advertisers hawking luxury watches and skincare so a lot of sharp, thoughtful work gets nixed before it can even get going. just my two cents!

for a long time, we couldn't leave anything at a desk overnight. we were allowed to have a little locker tho!! the people who froth at the mouth for asses at desks are always the ones who have an office with a door that closes

at Pitchfork, we sat at a bunch of cubicle desks in a space that had a "Storage" placard at the door when we were moved in. trying to find space for a private call, or god forbid a room where staff could listen to an album together, was like Mike Judge Presents The Hunger Games
As of 3/3, @CondeNast is enforcing a 4-day Return To Office policy to enhance “productivity.” This plan will have the opposite effect. We have detail-oriented jobs that operate on tight deadlines. Condé sold office space during the pandemic, so most of us don’t have our own desks
