A huge thank you to my co-authors (@BalesLab, @AllisonRLau, @loganesav) and all the other lab members who helped with this project. This project was also supported by funding from the @LoveConsortium (thank you to all the people there who were interested in this project!).

If you are interested in using this speed-dating method in your own lab or with the subjects you work with, feel free to get in touch. I'd love to chat!

These results also have practical implications for colony management and animal welfare, and we provide a case report of using a modified version of the "speed-dating" test to find a compatible mate for a male titi monkey with a history of incompatibility with previous mates.

Consistent with evolutionary theories of pair bonding and empirical studies in humans, our results suggest that compatibility may be an important factor for mate choice and pair bonding in titi monkeys.

We also found that the degree of initial compatibility that subjects had for the mate they were ultimately paired with predicted increased affiliation at earlier time points. This suggests compatibility acted as a catalyst for pair bonding (i.e., facilitated faster bonding).

🚨Paper Alert!🚨 Does compatibility matter for pair bonding? We found that titi monkeys paired together based on initial compatibility (determined via a "speed-dating" test) had increased post-pairing affiliation (relative to age-matched controls). https://t.co/s2QJ2crzDd

I’m personally proud to have included a sample of men-who-date-men in the study. LGBTQ people are underrepresented in social science, and we still have more steps to take to increase the diversity of our samples.

So excited for my @LoveConsortium project to come out in PNAS today! We found that first impressions of compatibility and popularity predicted later dating and romantic interest (across 3 speed-dating studies, n > 550). https://t.co/SaSkwoOx8i

Today, someone on the bus wasn’t wearing a mask over their nose. When the bus driver noticed they stopped the bus (at a stop), walked back, and asked the passenger to put their mask on properly. Thank you @ASUCDUnitrans for keeping us safe! @ucdavis
