Religion has a place in society. When it harms other people who do not believe, it has gone too far. You are free to believe whatever you like. You are not free to belittle other people, or make their lives harder. Trans rights are human rights. 🏳️‍⚧️ ❤️.

To the trans community: I see you, I respect you, I love you. As a queer community, we will get through this. 💪🏼 .To our politicians: this is not a time for tactics or games. You are playing with peoples’ lives here. Some of the most vulnerable Australians. Be the leaders we need.

We’ve seen this year after year as though we mean less. Guess what? We’re here, and we’re (fabulously) queer. Get over it. The strawman arguments about private schools are farcical. You don’t have the right to be a bigot. You have the human responsibility to respect others.

It is absolutely galling to have your rights debated as though they’re some sort of political football. To think what our Federal politicians could have been working on this week rather than another attack on the LGBTQI community is, frankly, depressing in the extreme.

then your religion is the problem. How dare you. If you are a Christian, not once did Jesus ever say “suffer the children - except gay and trans ones”. Think about how you are harming people. Think about how you are not living a Christian lifestyle. “God is love” (apparently).

I am a white, cisgender male. I cannot possibly fully appreciate how any transgender, genderqueer, non-binary or genderfluid person feels, or has felt. But what I do know is this:.If your religion means you feel justified in telling a child - or another person - they are lesser.

It is incredibly hard to hear, week after week, year after year, in the most formative part of your life that you are wrong. That you mean less. That you can’t have a full life. That you shouldn’t have one and you don’t deserve one simply because of the way you are.

It was 2003 when I realised and in regional Victoria, this was not exactly an enlightened time. Lesbian mums on Play School were about to cause a furore. An AFL captain acting “camp” on TV was damaging. I thought the answer to my “problem” was to pray, because that’s all I knew.

This pushed me into 10 years where I couldn’t understand myself. Many people will never realise how damaging this is; how deeply disturbing it is to not be able to work out why you can’t fit in, why you’re different, why you’re feeling the way you do.
