@adamcommens Great questions proving that the real smart people are the ones that are looking for input from others through asking questions. To know is to ask questions. Greets. Jef

Are you aware of your emotions when you coach? Do you review your teams performances after every match? Do you review your own performance as a coach? A coach debrief post game with your fellow coaches is a great process. What aspects of your coaching would you seek feedback?

I was recently reintroduced to the concept of leverage in coaching, and it’s super simple. 1. List the 10 things your team needs to improve 2. Now choose the 3 you believe will have the most impact. It’s likely those 3 will positively impact the other 7 That’s Leverage!

One of my favourite podcasts is finding mastery by @michaelgervais but this extract from a recent article he wrote is a banger. Don’t let FOPO rule your life.

This is one thing I’ve learned over the years. It’s the difference between the good coaches and the great leaders.
Being a coach doesn’t automatically make you a leader. You can be a great coach of the X & O’s, but a terrible leader of people. Being a leader is a separate skill that needs to be learned and earned. Foremost, you lead through your influence. #leadwithpurpose

Dusting off the old coaching folder. Back on the pitch with Belgium Dev squad against Korea. Will be great to see the next generation against a WC quarter finalist!

Nice reflections on a new sport. It’s good to see a different take than the European echo chamber. Alistair’s reflections also highlight the major funding challenges federations have as a result of 5s introduction.

This has been a bug bear of mine for years. It’s not SSG vs technical training/repetition. It’s both. You need both to achieve mastery. I’ve spoken to the best players in the world and they all promote repetition AND SSG. You cannot master SSG without technique mastery.

Complacency occurs when individuals/teams expect they can get the desired result without investing time and energy into the key behaviours/habits that made them successful in the first place.

Some excellent points made!
There is also an alternative view: The coach is part of the players’ team. The coach is a member of the team as much as players. Coaches set the tone & alongside with the athletes create and co-create “magic” Why should a coach be viewed outside the team? @SteveKerr

Scoreboard pressure is one of the most difficult things to manage as a coach. Controlling your emotions effectively rather than letting your emotions control you can be the difference between coming back or letting the score blow out. I speak about it here 👇
Really enjoyed my conversation with @adamcommens High Performance Director of the Belgium Hockey Federation on this week's episode of The Sport Psych Show. Adam is a former player & represented the Australian National Field Hockey Team at the 2000 Olympics https://t.co/AkKm5vdvka
