Recent US Supreme Court order lifting an injunction against an important transparency law sends an important signal to other courts weighing similar challenges. The separate injunction that remains in place is at odds with the Supreme Court order and should also be lifted.

A U.S. Supreme Court ruling created confusion last week, with transparency advocates briefly cheering the apparent reinstatement of the Corporate Transparency Act. But the law remains stalled due to an injunction by a Texas federal judge. Read the story:

I’m quoted in Bloomberg: When lobbyists’ legal attacks on the US beneficial ownership register are over, “law enforcement will be better equipped to stop criminals who use anonymous US shell companies to launder fentanyl profits.”

Dirty money, dark money and big money all benefit from the same opacity in political finance. All expect something in return. If you’re angry that politics hasn’t been responding to your interests, pressure your representatives to support anti-corruption at home and abroad.

Our member @anticorruption recently set out globally applicable standards for protecting electoral politics from dark and dirty money. Sadly, the US is miles away from achieving the kind of political integrity the standards describe. https://t.co/VTAkvfUbuU

But here’s the thing - it also means making US politics more responsive to citizens, rather than moneyed interests. Weaknesses in US democracy open the door for these kind of influence operations.

Unchecked corruption and kleptocracy abroad are bad for American democracy 🇺🇸 Putting America first should mean the fighting sources of malign influence over US politics. That means continuing to make anti-corruption a pillar of US foreign policy. 👀 @SenMarcoRubio
