For Pikmin 5, I think that it should only have the original 3 types and Parasitic Pikmin, and allow the player to control other creatures (like sheargrubs, wollyhops, dweevils) with the parasitic Pikmin. So parasitic Pikmin would be 5's gimmick, basically
@_Flamsey
What might balance this while also letting it rock would be making it so different creatures take a certain amount of parasites to control
i.e.
Dwarf Bulborbs, Breadbugs, etc = 1
Wollywogs, Blowhogs, etc = 5
Bulborbs, Canon Beetles, etc = 10
Mid Bosses = 50
Bosses = 100
@SockTalking
Maybe you have to do a certain amount of damage, then the boss will be left in a stunned state in which you can throw a parasitic pikmin to control it
@_Flamsey
It should have all, but the parasitic pikmin could be a side mode, just like with glow pikmin. Therefore it doesnโt break any balance and you can design gameplay completely around it
@_Flamsey
Why just control other creatures ? Let's think big ! Let's make parasitic Pikmin parasite materials too. Like parasite a rock to get Rock Pikmin or ice, wood, dirt etc... Would be the TotK of Pikmin ! ๐ค
@_Flamsey
Maybe the parasitic pikmin can instead of acting as new pikmin types, act as new mountable creatures similar to Oatchi. Like, a big mountable bulborb or wollyhop with their own unique attributes.

The downside being you canโt keep whatever you infest after the day ends. That way you canโt roll up to the final boss with a Water wraith, Empress Bulblax, and machine gun spider
