Very important! "Vital to wildlife, water quality and flood defense, wetlands are losing ground. Literally." @madeline_heim https://t.co/obDpaJL2oY In Iowa I wrote a story about how 95% of the state's wetlands had been drained. This is a national problem.

The states that border the Mississippi River have lost at least half of the wetlands they once had, including Wisconsin.

“Hedge fund ownership of local newsrooms is not a business model we support,” Kleman told WaPo. “America has seen the results: an axing of staff and also local news coverage.” As a current @Report4America and Gannett journalist: thank you, @kdkleman. https://t.co/TlGD0ABHQ9

Report for America subsidizes journalist salaries at hundreds of newspapers. But it wants to stop aiding media investors it says are undermining journalism.

Report for America, which funds of hundreds of local journalists, will no longer support positions at Gannett, Alden, or any newspapers owned by private equity or hedge funds because "that business model isn’t the future for robust local news."
