Huge props to @GSEaglesVoice and @chrisdavis_CD for going straight into football on Hail Southern Live, when they could have glossed over it. Davis gets a lot of credit from me for his comments. He'll get even more credit if he follows through and they're not just empty words.

We've shown that we need to fire Clay. We've shown we can afford to fire Clay. We've shown that injury and NIL excuses don't hold up. Wait for the season to end and then clean house. The decision now rests with Chris Davis, Dr. Marrero, and the athletic board.
So just to recap: - Clay's buyout is very manageable - The Athletic Foundation has plenty of cash on hand - Clay's about to have his 3rd losing season in 4 tries - Defense is all-time bad, offense is poor too - Injuries do not explain away our 3-5 record - It's going to get worse

GS Athletic Foundation liquidity sits at $8 mil, up from $3 mil in 2019. That's money we can use for anything we want. Clay's buyout is paid out monthly over the next 4 years (growing from 712k in 2026 to 825k in 2029). We can 100% afford this. Don't let them say we can't.

In 2026, we can pay Helton $950,000 to coach, or $712,500 to NOT coach. We can pay an FCS coach $750,000 like JMU did with Chesney. That means we'd paying $1.46 mil for head coach salaries. That's incredibly reasonable for a G5 team trying to win football games.

If you’d told me in 2008-09 that there’s a strong argument to be made that Sam Baker would be our best AD of the next 2 decades I’d light myself on fire. This is even more depressing when you look at it from this perspective.

No 2 ways about, a buyout like this for a program of GS’s finances is an absolute albatross. Handing out that extension with a barely .500 record was malpractice.
