Charles makes a great point that is completely accurate. However, the one difference between then and now is that the 1000-1500 sq ft home then was a brisk walk to work, a quick trolley ride or a short drive if you had a car. This house today is well over 20 miles from the work
Agreed. Gen Z needs to realize what people accepted as a normal first home in the 50s. In Newton, Iowa, it was about 1,000-1,500 sq ft, small living room, two small bedrooms, small bathroom, kitchen with a small dining table, no basement, no attic. Yes, you could afford to buy it
