Another 'on this day' #OTD 2021 @wembleystadium connected by @EE England lose to Italy 3-2 on penalties in the #UEFA EURO2020 Final.
11 July 2021. Italy beat England 3-2 on penalties after extra time in the final of the Men’s UEFA Euro 2020 Final at Wembley (delayed from 2020). The match ended 1-1. It was the 1st time England’s men had reached a major final since the FIFA Men’s World Cup Final in 1966.

On this day in 1966. 🇺🇾. @England kicked off their home World Cup campaign against Uruguay. The final score? A goalless draw. This was also John Connelly's only appearance at the World Cup. He belatedly received his winner's medal at Downing Street, 43 years later.

History tells us #Elvis Presley never performed in Britain but our @BNArchive research uncovered these plans from early 1966 for the first ever UK stadium show @wembleystadium by the King. Perhaps the 1966 #FIFA World Cup got in the way, perhaps the reported fee was not enough.
