Quantum computing is both a revolution and a risk. It could change science, medicine, and tech but it also forces crypto to evolve.

The good news? Researchers are already building quantum-resistant cryptography, new math that even quantum computers can’t break. NIST has picked some algorithms, and blockchains are exploring how to upgrade.

Does this mean your coins are unsafe today? No. Quantum computers powerful enough to do this don’t exist yet. But the threat is real enough that countries, companies are preparing early.

But with quantum computing, some of these protections could break. Two main risks: Private keys could be exposed (letting attackers steal coins). Blockchains using digital signatures (like Bitcoin & Ethereum) could see fake transactions.

Crypto relies heavily on this kind of math. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and almost every chain use cryptography, fancy math puzzles, to secure wallets and verify transactions. Your private key is safe today because normal computers can’t guess it.

This is powerful, but also dangerous. Many things in our digital world, from passwords to crypto wallets, rely on math problems that normal computers can’t solve quickly. Quantum computers might crack those problems in the future.

How? Imagine flipping a coin. A normal computer can only choose heads OR tails at once. A quantum computer can explore both at the same time, and then pick the right answer faster.

Quantum computing sounds complicated, but the idea is simple: Normal computers use bits (0 or 1). Quantum computers use qubits, which can be 0 and 1 at the same time. This lets them solve some problems much faster than any supercomputer.

Few days back El Salvador just split its Bitcoin holdings across 14 wallets, each capped at 500 BTC. Why? Because of the threat of quantum computing. Let’s break down what that means and why it matters for crypto 🧵
