“Domestic violence is fundamentally about power and control. The coronavirus pandemic gave abusers a powerful tool of control because their victims were in much closer proximity to them, 24/7 in many cases, and had less access to sources of support and assistance.’’

Then, open your eyes and bring to mind the following, continuing to breathe deep as you notice: 5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you feel, 2 things you smell, and 1 thing you taste. You could think these in your head or say them out loud.

These techniques can help you when you are feeling overwhelmed or anxious. To begin, find a comfortable seat and breathe deep into your belly and diagram, watching it rise and fall. Your breaths should be deep and slow, making them last as long as feels comfortable.
