in 1990 through to 2013. He was also instrumental in the development and launch of the Living Donor Program at UHN, which led to a significant increase in the supply of donor organ and in changing the lives of thousands of recipients over the years.

Dr. Levy was instrumental in establishing the first multiorgan transplant program in Canada, which fostered collaborative research, education, and patient care for persons who were being evaluated for and/or underwent solid organ transplant, a program he led from its initiation.

On October 23rd, 2024, the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology celebrated the lifetime achievement of Dr. Gary Levy MD CM by naming him as the 3rd Living Legend of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, joining previous honorees Dr. Khush Jeejeebhoy and Dr. E Jennie Heathcote.
