@unisonscot
members today take part in the biggest strike action Scotland has seen in more than a decade you’ll see lots of misinformation flying around about the most recent pay offer.
Here are the facts 👇
The results of our consultative ballot on COSLA’s latest pay offer are now in. 👇
Our members have spoken loudly & clearly. We urge all parties to get back round the negotiating table with us to thrash out a deal to avoid further disruption in schools across Scotland.
We have written to
@scotgov
&
@COSLA
this evening on the back of three days strike action by
@unisonscot
mbrs. 👇
Our resolve to continue the fight for fair pay is unshaken & the next wave of action will be even bigger!
***Calling all
@unisonscot
@unisontheunion
working in school cleaning, school catering, school janitorial, waste & recycling services ***
Don’t let Maggie Thatcher get her way - complete and return your strike ballot today! 🗳
We understand the Labour group on
@COSLA
put forward a motion calling for a revised pay offer to be made but the SNP & Tories voted it down.
A stark reminder of who is willing to
#recogniserespectrewardLG
workers & those who are not.
Our joint TU letter to COSLA is 👇
It was the willingness of our
@unisonscot
members in Local Gvt to stand up to
@COSLA
&
@scotgov
, & hard work of our activists, that has secured this improved offer.
There is power in a union ✊

@unisontheunion
members working in waste services in Stirling and Perth & Kinross are on strike today ✊

In light of the First Minister’s announcement yest
@UNISONScotLGvt
have written to
@ClydesdAileen
& COSLA seeking urgent clarification on a number of issues relating to the safety of LG workers 👇
We are pleased that
@scotgov
and
@COSLA
have responded positively to the concerns
@UNISONScotLGvt
@unisonscot
raised about the conflicting advice being issued on the use of PPE and have agreed the joint statement below. 👇
We will always fight to protect our members. 💪
***BREAKING NEWS***
- Revised & improved pay offer secured.
- Strikes suspended whilst we consult members on that offer.
- LG Cmtt recc to accept.
Full details below 👇
Our consultative ballot on
@COSLA
’s initial 2023 pay offer closed today. Results are:
👉 87.11% voted to REJECT the offer.
👉 Of those who voted to reject the offer 90.99% voted in favour of taking industrial action to secure an improved offer. Our letter to COSLA 👇
The
@scotgov
draft budget falls far short of what
@COSLA
needs to protect jobs and services. Here’s our initial reaction 👇
It’s more important than ever to ask MSPs to stand up for council services and help
#PlugTheGap
in council budgets 👉
On Frid
@COSLA
put forward a revised pay offer of ‘an equivalent quantum of a 3.5% pay uplift’.
Our
@UNISONScotLGvt
Cmtt met this morn & agreed unanimously to reject that offer outright. Our letter to them is 👇
#recogniserespectrewardLG
If
@UNISONScotLGvt
@unisonscot
members needed any more incentive to vote YES to strike action this is it - the Cab Sec for Finance isn’t even prepared to meet with us to discuss averting strike action or improving LG funding 👇
#RecogniseRespectRewardLG
Constructive discussions w
@COSLA
&
@NicolaSturgeon
lasted into the early hours.
We understand COSLA Leaders meet again tomorrow morning to consider their position & will keep you updated.
Today we served notice of further strike action taking place on 1st Nov, in our dispute over LG pay, on Glasgow, Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire & Inverclyde.
This is first stage of a rolling program of action - further dates & local authorities will be notified in due course.
Our pay ballot is now live!
The Committee is recommending rejection of the offer for these reasons:
Make sure you have your say before the ballot closes on 7th November!

@unisonscot
mbrs is:

• 67% voted to take industrial action up to & incl strike action
We’ll inform employer of these results & invite them to get back to negotiations
The Scottish Gvt may have forgotten the wider Scottish Local Gvt workforce but we in
@unisonscot
@UNISONScotLGvt
@unisontheunion
haven’t.
We’ll continue to fight to get you the recognition you deserve. Help us by sending a letter to your MSP now

There has been a lot of talk out there about why we have not simply agreed to convert the £ available from
@COSLA
for pay into a flat rate.
Please share this brief explainer with members 👇
89.8% of
@UNISONScotLGvt
members have voted in favour of taking action over pay in a consultative ballot. ✊
We’ve written to
@COSLA
informing them of the result & urging them to improve their offer👇
#RecogniseRespectRewardLG
UNISON Scottish Joint Council reps took time out their meetings with
@COSLA

#unisongreenday
#ClimateEmergency
Scotland’s Chief Nursing Officer’s letter has potential to put home and social care workers in Scotland at greater risk than their UK counterparts & is nothing short of a national scandal. It needs to be withdrawn as a matter of urgency👇
Today local govt workers are due a pay uplift. So far
@COSLA
have only made one offer which was woeful & insulting. No improvement has been forthcoming. We’ve therefore been left w no option but to inform them we’ll be moving to consult mbrs on industrial action 👇
We have been pressing
@COSLA
&
@scotgov
for weeks now to expand routine testing to school staff to support education recovery...
Both should remember that they will not be able to reopen schools without our school support staff.
If
@scotgov
want to avoid a repeat of last year’s industrial difficulties across local gvt they need to give
@COSLA
enough £ to make a decent pay offer to their workers - we’ve written to them jointly asking them to do so 👇
All
@unisonscot
@UNISONScotLGvt
members shld today/tomorrow receive a consultative ballot asking if you are willing to take action in pursuit of an improved pay offer from
@COSLA
. We are urging you to vote YES.

Today we launch our
#Together4ABetterFuture
campaign calling for long term investment in LGvt to protect jobs, reduce wage inequalities & for workers to be engaged in shaping the post

world.
What do you think the
#lockdownlegacy
shld look like👇
…
A sad day that it has come to this 👇
Both
@CoSLA
and
@scotgov
shld hang their heads in shame.
55% of LGvt workers earn less than £25k per annum. The current offer doesn’t even lift the lowest paid up to £10 per hr.
Now that the
#SP2021
is over, & Local Gvt workers have yet again gone above & beyond the call of duty under diff circumstances, can we ask when
@COSLA
& the
@theSNP
@scotgov
are going to recognise their efforts by making them a decent pay offer?!
Solidarity to members taking strike action today, on behalf of all local government workers, in Perth & Kinross and Stirling ✊💚💜
Our whole union stands with you!
#RiseUpToGetPayUp

Sorry
@JohnSwinney
didn’t reply to our request for a mtg to hand over our member’s postcards but we’ve left them at Scottish Parl for delivery to his office.
Thousands of our members have written to him to remind him that Education is ONE Team who ALL deserve fair pay!
#Parity
We have written to
@COSLA
Leaders,
@_KateForbes
&
@ShonaRobison
in advance of their meeting today.
The stakes are high - we hope that sense prevails & our members receive an improved pay offer that reflects & rewards their enormous efforts over the past year.
We submitted the joint TU pay claim in Dec, allowing plenty of time for negs to conclude before 1 April imp date.
Its v disappointing
@COSLA
won’t engage in any negs prior to 8 March, meaning workers who’ve kept our country going won’t get a pay rise until after they’re due it.
We have today written to
@KateForbesMSP
&
@ClydesdAileen
pressing them to provide urgent funding to
@COSLA
to support local authorities that are facing a financial crises, to protect service provision & members jobs. 👇
Our North Lanarkshire branch successfully battled to protect home care services from proposals to privatise them under this persons tenure. If only this money had been put into those services... 😡
Recent news that incidents of abuse, directed towards local gvt workers, has increased during this crises is v worrying indeed.
@UNISONScotLGvt
@unisonscot
is clear - UNISON will do everything we can to protect & safeguard those who are protecting us
Today our Scottish Local Gvt Cmtt took the decision to recommend that
@unisonscot
mbrs reject
@COSLA
’s recent pay offer when they are balloted in the coming weeks. Here’s why:
By maj vote of the TU side at the SJC mtg today the Scottish Local Gvt pay deal has been accepted.
@COSLA
will now write to all councils asking them to process payments (most shld be able to make in March salaries).
Thanks
@unisonscot
mbrs for their efforts!

"One day our society will come to respect the sanitation worker if it is to survive, for the person who picks up our garbage, in the final analysis, is as significant as the physician, for if they do not do their job, diseases are rampant. All labor has dignity."
M Luther King
.
@COSLA
say they have no more £ to improve the pay offer but, unbelievably, voted *against* our motion calling on them to approach
@scotgov
for more £ to do so.
@unisonscot
’s lead negotiator spoke to
@STVColin
about the situation 👇

Threats to ALL T& C's have been removed. Negotiations will continue on the VT package. These negotiations must be agreed & concluded by 23 July or notice of further strike action will be served. The Work To Rule will remain in place meantime. Tomorrows strike action is cancelled.
Members can now vote in our new consultative ballot on the revised COSLA pay offer.
