Here at the center, grower input is vital to guiding our work. Recently, several Florida #caladium growers visited our breeder, Dr. Deng, to provide feedback on our caladium variety development and discuss how we can better support this industry moving forward.

The soil-borne pathogen that causes charcoal rot is one of the most destructive affecting the global strawberry industry. Breeding strawberries that are resistant to charcoal rot is a priority for researchers at the University of Florida. #HortScience https://t.co/QU4UNT3vY0

Our second crop of #hops this season is thriving, already reaching the 15-ft cable! By using LED lights to extend day length, we're successfully suppressing premature flowering until the plants hit 18 ft, ensuring a robust harvest ahead. 🍺

Seedlings for the 2024-25 season are off to the nursery! This year is special since the seedlings are back at @UFGulfCoastREC after 2 years at an outsourced facility. A lot of brainstorming definitely paid off! The @UfBreeding and @vance_whitaker can now rest…for a while. 😁

As hop cones mature, they produce acids and essential oils that contribute to the bitterness and aroma of beer🍻 We sample cones for preharvest chemical analysis multiple times to monitor the maturity level and determine the optimum time to harvest! 2 weeks to go 😍 #UFHops
