Sadly, in the early hours of Tuesday 7 May, Ely Museum was broken into. Thieves stole the East Cambridgeshire gold torc and a gold bracelet, both dating from the Bronze Age. The police are currently investigating the theft. We will be closed to the public on Wednesday 8 May.

Don’t you just LOVE it when you use your landscape investigation skills and find a lost Roman villa (and later iron works that cuts through the middle of it). 🤓

In England for a building to qualify for listing at Grade II it needs to be at least 30 years old. So to mark the end of the year here is my list of 10 buildings that were completed in 1994, so are now eligible. 🧵 (You can see my 1993 list here: https://t.co/lZbrn6qhbQ)
Under the 30 year rule buildings in England are not normally eligible for listing until they reach that age. So to mark the new year, here is a list of 10 buildings completed in 1993 that are now eligible, & I think are worthy of listing. 🧵

.@RoyalHistSoc has today issued a statement on the proposed cuts and closures @oxfordbrookes in #History & other depts https://t.co/Igp8NHLqnu These cuts are extensive. They risk the future of staff students, and the very research culture for which Brookes historians are known.

Exploring the architecture of a medieval parish church today with our third year students, who have done a great building survey inside and out! And a close encounter with this splendid bull in the field next door (who was not at all interested in us)

We’ve had a great first day out on site with our fieldwork module students exploring, discussing and surveying earthworks ranging from medieval to 20th century. Some excellent work today in measuring, drawing, interpreting, branch holding and minibus driving.

Really pleased to see this excellent book by Dr David Boulton, our former PhD student @UEA_History is out now!
Today, the name of the game is exploring the first comprehensive analysis of Scandinavian-influenced place names in East Anglia. Using this analysis, this volume maps out different patterns of #Viking settlement in the region. Learn more ➡ https://t.co/bw5BEcbPPW
